Tomato Fruit Weight 11.3 maps close to fasciated on the bottom of chromosom 11

fw11.3 is not allelic to fas. fas is a invertion mutant, the invertion region included YABBY gene, and the breakponint of the inversion was within the first intron of YABBY gene. Hence, in the fasciated fruit,YABBY was been knocked out whereas the wild type fruit pocess it.

fw11.3 is not an allele of fasciated, fw11.3 (in Howard German) mutant was partially dominace over S. pimpinellifolium.
FAS has been cloned and has been found to encode a YABBY-like transcription factor, however, fw11.3 locus in HowrdGerman was fine-mapped to EP1057-EP1573 interval located 45kb downstream of YABBY gene.  

fw11.3 and YABBY are two genes that map close to each other, and they are not alleles of the same gene.


fw2.2 and fas show that latge fruit alleles are partially recessive.  They are negative regulatore of cel division and increase  increas in carpel -number.  Moreover, in fas mutation, the large fruit phenotype resulted from loss-of-function mutation.

fw11.3 is partially dominant mutant, unlike fw2.2 and fas.  There are 22 predicted enes corresponding to fw11.3, nine of them are considered likely candidate genes of FW11.2 based on their predicted role in  cell division and cell expansion.
